I'm gonna need more proof, NeverTrumpers

Noemie Emery writes in The Washington Examiner that NeverTrumpers have begun to rally around the president because they have come to the realization that Democrats, socialists, communists and liberal activists are the real political enemy.
Suddenly, long-term "Never Trumpers," to their surprise and astonishment, have a strange new respect for their commander in chief. “For the first time since Donald Trump entered the political fray, I find myself grateful that he’s in it,” Bret Stephens wrote in the New York Times on Oct. 4. “I’m reluctant to admit it and astonished to say it. ... I’m grateful because Trump has not backed down in the face of the slipperiness, hypocrisy and dangerous standard-setting deployed by the opponents of Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination … I’m grateful because he’s a big fat hammer fending off a razor-sharp dagger … I’m grateful because ferocious and even crass obstinacy has its uses in life.”

...Democrats en masse turned their backs on the presumption of innocence, willing to wreck one man’s life over one allegation that never seemed grounded in fact. Everything the Never Trumpers had feared was about to take place was indeed coming at them, but not from Trump. It was coming from the people who claimed that they were his opponents. This has changed the Never Trumpers’ ideas about who was their enemy. How long they can hold to this formulation depends on the Left, and on him.
As Neo once said, "welcome to the real world".

In support of her argument are several factors - Lindsey Graham suddenly getting a spine, Susan Collins' eloquent and surprising speech on the senate floor explaining her decisioning on Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court, polls indicating a blue wave is not really so imminent.  That's all a good start, they are indeed positive signs, but I am going to require more proof.

What will it take to convince me?  NeverTrumpers turning out in the midterms to support Republicans in the senate and congress would be a good start, instead of openly endorsing Democrats.  But that's not enough, it's merely a step back to Republican normal and what today calls for, is not Republican normal.  What today's political climate - not Trump - requires is REpublican unity, and cohesive resistance to the left's radical resistance.  In other words, this is not about president Trump, it's about fighting fire with fire, fighting hyper-partisanship with hyper-partisanship.  No more going along to get along, no more believing that America in decline is the new normal will be acceptable.  Conservatives, Republicans, Libertarians and Independents alike must show absolute resolve in the face of the open hostility the left is displaying for America and all it stands for in the world.

If NeverTrumpers get behind that and offer deep-throated defense of any right-leaning causes, including unity within the party, then I will believe they have turned the corner on a president who simply does not want America to be pushed around by it's trading partners or be the U.N.'s whipping boy.  If you can't back that, then are you really a conservative?  Are you really an American?
