Trump still needs your support

Continued leftist pressure on president Trump is inevitable and just because he won, doesn't mean we can let up in our support for him. The left , unsuccessful in all their attempts to stop him, will not abate.

Newt Gingrich opines:

Newt is bright, I hope he's right

Newt Gingrich discusses TikTok and Trump. And he provides an interesting take on Trump's possible paradigm shifting impact on politics.

Tim Scott and the crowded GOP field

Tim Scott announced his run for president in 2024.  He's a good man but in a ever-more-crowded field with two heavyweights (president Trump and soon, Florida governor Ron DeSantis) it's unlikely there will be room for others to get enough oxygen into their campaigns realistically.

Newt Gingrich sums up Tim Scott quite well here:

Why Georgia matters

Newt Gingrich explains why the runoff election is so important:

Herschel Walker’s election is crucial to Georgia and all of America.

Despite some misconceptions that the Georgia runoff won’t have a major impact, the difference between a 50-50 Senate and a 51-49 Senate is enormous. Vice President Kamala Harris can break ties on the Senate floor – but not in committees.

With 51 seats, Democrats would control every committee. They would be able to report out judges and other Biden administration appointees without needing any Republican votes. They would be able to schedule hearings and report out whatever radical legislation they dream up.

At 50-50, there is genuine power sharing. Every committee has an even number of Democrats and Republicans. All nominations require bipartisan approval to be reported out of committee. Hearings must be held with bipartisan agreement.

This is crucial to stalling the leftward march of government for the next two years.

Repeal and Replace Setback

Is it really a setback that the first phase of the repeal and replace effort on Obamacare failed?    Yes and No.  The bill was not great even if there were some decent things in it.  It also shows Republicans are not the lockstep drones that Democrats are.  But time is a big factor and not an unlimited resource.  Something needs to be done soon or nothing will be done.   Here are a few reactions - Rand Paul and Newt Gingrich respond.

Martha Raddatz owned by Gingrich on Media Bias

Gingrich runs circles around Raddatz and she doesn't realize it. Unfortunately, she still manages to use the exchange as an opportunity to share anti-Trump media.

In case you still care - Sarah Palin says...

Sarah Palin kinda sorta endorses Newt Gingrich in the South Carolina primary.  Her cache has slipped since she didn't enter the race (better to enter and lose than not run), but she still has sway over a segment of the population.  Just because her star has fallen doesn't make her wrong either. So for what it's worth, here it is:

Part 2b - GOP primaries – The Wildcards (cont.)

NOTE: this post is a continuation of Part 2a - GOP primaries – The Wildcards.

In addition to the wild card factor posed  by Sarah Palin and Donald Trump, there is some wild card factor with two people still in the race - Ron Paul and Rick Santorum.  How will they affect the race?

RWN - John Hawkins' Case For Newt Gingrich

Right Wing News
John Hawkins makes the case for Gingrich over at Right Wing News; My Final Short & Sweet Case For Newt Gingrich. Despite Newt's obvious shortcomings, I agree with John Hawkins - Newt has a number of things in his favor and I am leaning towards Gingrich. He's a better choice than Mitt Romney and despite everything you hear, he's quite electable. As for the rest of the GOP field, there are great qualities in many of the candidates and if it were a three or four way race, I'd be less inclined towards Newt and more towards being undecided. But I don't think any other candidate has the potential sustainability plus polling to go head-to-head with Mitt for the whole of the primaries. John Hawkins makes that his very first point in his case for Newt.

I've always been a fan of Right Wing News, but I have to say, I'm very happy to be in synch with Mr. Hawkins in this case. Not to mention Thomas Sowell and Art Laffer.  I'm in quality company.

How to derail Newt: See Ron Paul

Doesn't matter who does it, the result will be the same.
A lot of the attacks of Newt Gingrich have been that he really isn't a conservative he's a big government Republican, or a technocrat who may have conservative ideals but is far too susceptible to solutions that have huge downside government overreach implications.  That's the real worry that his opponents are trying to play on.  If Mitt Romney is wishy-washy and a say anything faux conservative, Newt Gingrich has too much baggage and is not really conservative either.

The secret if you want to derail Gingrich is in the approach that Ron Paul has towards government.  It's not about rolling back Obama's big government progressive agenda and replacing it with another conservative idea, it's about rolling it back and replacing it with nothing from government.

Latest Debate Winner: No one

The latest GOP debate on CNN didn't really have a winner.  Everyone did pretty much as expected and there was no real gotcha moment, so not a lot of minds are going to be changed by this.  Except...

GOP moving parts almost stop moving. Let's predict.

Oh really now?
With Sarah Palin and Chris Christie bowing out of the race, the nominees are pretty much locked.  With states moving up their caucuses and primaries, the dates are locking in and coming soon.  The moving parts are stopping their moving and locking in for the GOP nomination process.  With things locking down predictions about what is likely to happen are somewhat easier, though by no means have they become a simple task.  The ubiquitous "a lot can happen between now and..." still applies.

Just ask the guy on the left.

Things change, and we can't wait for the next one.  The question is, who will it be to replace America's significant O?

Gingrich: Contract with America 2.0

Sure, Newt may be unelectable, he won't be the next president.  But since the first Contract With America was such a success, the sequel deserves a listen.  The video below is a full hour about the 21st Century Contract With America.  Give it a chance, because whether Newt is a serious contender or not, the ideas here are worth consideration.

The other big takeaway from this - when exactly did C-SPAN start allowing their videos to be embedded? That's a win for the blogosphere, particularly us on the right.

Link love

So I'm working 14-16 hours a day lately and my blog is suffering.  Trust me, I'm not complaining - I'm working.  Until I'm back to normal, check out these quality posts elsewhere:

The Black Caucus is losing patience with Mr. O.

Nobody can win, except Sarah Palin.

Nobody can win but Newt Gingrich.  No link?  Oh wait, he'll have the Hawaii vote.

Always end with a chuckle.

Seriously Newt, did you expect anything different?
