Taking a run at Bill Maher. Yes, now.

It's been a long time since I've bothered to comment on Bill Maher.  Recently he came to the conclusion that a Civil War II is not far off if people continue to hate each other and it would be a good idea to tone things down.  What better time than now to criticize for me to him?

For context, here's his recent soliloquy on the topic of getting along, fraught with problems as it is:

It's insulting, it's demeaning all the while it's trying to recommend that we all just get along. What he means by it, when he says "Let it go." is that liberals are going to have to learn to let go of their attempted owning of conservatives. Alright, his audience is mostly rabidly liberal, so I guess I get the slant. But what he says still raises two issues. (1) Why now? (2) He's still not practicing what he preaches.

Why now? I think that's obvious. While Bush 43 was president, while McCain and Romney and even further back Bob Dole and even Bush Sr. were running for president or were president, there was no push back on the vile vitriol from the left directed towards conservatives. Conservatives have been the whipping boy of the left for decades. We've longed for Ronald Reagan 2.0 since he left office because he was almost magical in his ability to rise above the attacks, and at the same time be eloquent and presidential. But even he was attacked as a dumb guy by the left. So that void of push back finally got filled. We wanted Reagan 2.0 but we got president Trump.

And you know what, most of us on the right are pretty happy with how it's turned out. No he doesn't exude the presidential aura of Reagan. He doesn't possess the same eloquence or the same likability. But he does possess other qualities. He exudes confidence. He's a fighter. He does not back down. He believes in America. He pushes back. And he's unapologetic.  We'll forgive him his coarseness and bull in a China shop approach to draining the swamp.  Hell, we even want the latter because it's about the only way it's going to get done.

In addition to all of that , his backbone has slowly begun to infuse conservatives of all stripes to push back too. Outside of a few notable exceptions like Rush Limbaugh, push back is something abused conservatives have not done loudly or strongly enough, if at all, for decades. The silent majority has been so silent, we are barely a majority now. So now that we are fighting back, just like a bully, suddenly Bill Maher is saying, to paraphrase, 'hey let's all tone it down here'. 

No. You've owned the bully pulpit for so long, we are not about to step back from speaking our minds now that we are not afraid to do so. Remember this is the same Bill Maher who is saying George Bush wasn't so bad, but also said back in 2006 was saying Bush should be impeached.

Guess what Bill, we are not afraid of you any more.  

And when you continue to dump all over half the country WHILE you are telling liberals to tone it down to avoid a civil war, you are being a hypocrite Bill Maher, a hypocrite with a capital F. Why should we back down when you continue to berate us?  And why would liberals tone it down at your behest just because you say so, and call us scum at the same time?  You are motivating them to continue too.  We don't buy it Bill.

Bill Maher tells his audience that the intractable stubbornness of conservatives is not because they are ignorant but that it comes from hate.  Hold a mirror up to your side Bill - everyone from ANTIFA to yourself are consumed by hate.  And it's a hate of people.  What conservatives are filled with is a desire for a more free society, a more Constitutional Union, economic prosperity.  

And all of that comes from an intellectual understanding of history, economics and law (among other things).  It does not come from our feelings.  Let me also add science to that mix.  Anti-intellectualism on the left on climate science is rife with "the science is settle", "the debate is over".  No. it's really not.  If that's your argument and it's not backed by factual evidence, which conservatives can produce, then it's become a religion based on faith and nothing more.  Scientific debate is healthy.  Stop demonizing us for stupidity when we have come prepared to debate you, minus the slander and feelings-based arguments.  Maybe it's just another part of the reason you are afraid of a civil war.  It's convenient for you to ignore the intellectual right, just as it is to ignore the thuggish "knuckle-dragging" parts of the left.

And stop being disingenuous  by saying that you were never afraid of Bush locking up reporters, implying that president Trump will.  That's beyond stupid.  It has not happened for 3 years despite the fact that liberals have wanted president Trump impeached, jailed or even executed.  That's hypocrisy.

Stop imbuing Bush with nobility for wishing that Obama succeeded when liberals have wanted Trump out since the day he was elected and have been working on it since election night.  That too is hypocrisy.

America needs a civil war - of ideas.  It's been a war that only your side has been fighting and we've had enough.  If you want to back down now, fine, roll back all of your past mistakes, otherwise accept that we are not done pushing back.  We are however done with your derision, your lecturing, your more-virtuous-than-thou signalling to fellow liberals and conservatives alike.  You were right about one thing - we are not going away.  We are pushing back because we have been abused by liberals for too long to keep quite about and our beliefs now. We welcome you to debate us; a democracy thrives on debate and ideas.  

Midterms Matter: New Jersey it's not just scandal, it's hypocrisy.

Besieged New Jersey senator Bob Menendez is not just scandal-plagued, he's a hypocrite.  Vote for his opponent and do New Jersey a favor.

But Chuck Schumer is worse

I'm mad at Republicans in the Senate for doing nothing on Obamacare (and tax reform, and tax cuts, and the wall etc.). I just discussed it. But for all of that, Chuck Schumer is worse.  The guy who refused to work with Republicans on the passing of Obamacare is now saying that he's willing to work with Republicans to fix it, and that going it alone by the Republicans (the same way Democrats did in passing this boondoggle) is misguided and not reasonable.

Hypocrite.

Chuck Schumer should be invited to nothing that has to do with anything.  Shut him out of everything.  That's something all Republicans should agree upon. And if there is a Republican who doesn't agree with that approach - they don't belong in the party.

The Internet can be a wonderful thing.  It used to be that when a news story broke without a lot of context, it was difficult to get the right sort of background and context to be able to understand the implications of the story. In fact, if there was a somewhat related story days, weeks or years before, you'd have to remember it and link the two points together - a pretty rare feat for most of us.  But that is not necessary any longer with the availability of information via the Internet.  Case in point - socialite Denise Rich.  Wait, who?  It turns out she's an Obama donor and tied to less than upstanding goings-on.

Olbermann's latest hypocritical rant

Olbermann is the Beck he envisions. What a hypocritical nutcase!!! I hate to resort to name calling but Olbermann slips so easily into a rant and cannot fathom that alternate opinion being anything but absurd.

(Though Obama was clearly referring to the principle of giving criminals a day in court, it's worth pointing out the distinction here, that the Nuremberg trials did not give Nazi war criminals access to U.S. courts, but to a special international military tribunal created by the U.S., USSR, France and the U.K. Though Nuremberg currently is considered a model for international law, it's not as if Rudolph Hess had access to challenge his detention in U.S. federal court.)

Looks like your idol got that one wrong too. And your eagerness to implicate beck kinda indicates your willingness to throw it out the window when it comes to pointing fingers.

Earth Hour: A message to tree huggers.

Yes, and I'm posting on the Internet, which means I'm on my computer. Which means I'm an Earth Hour heretic.

BUT

It would seem Google is still up and running. And MSN, and Yahoo. And the Television networks are still broadcasting. Restaurants and gas stations and stores are still open. At least where I am.

Maybe you, who turned off the Internet and everything electrical or just happen to live in a cave already, were Earth Hour compliant, BUT I refuse to be.

There is no global warming as it's being told to you. There is climate change, but it's happened for millions of years and our footprint as a species is infinitesimal, you self-important fools. The earth is not in crisis.

Electricity could be much cheaper and yes, cleaner, if you'd just accept clean, potentially abundant nuclear energy.

There is nothing you can do sitting at home and turning off your electricity that will help ensure the water is cleaner.

Beyond recycling, landfills have always been part of humanity. For example, the notion that the Native Indians used 100% of everything they hunted, fished or foraged is silly. They didn't use or recycle 100% and neither can we. Do you really think the Native Indians never had anything they didn't need or couldn't use? If you do, then you are extremely naive. Besides, everything man made came originally from natural resources. Even plastic will eventually bio-degrade, we've just lengthened the cycle. Given time, the earth will recycle everything. If not, the universe will. We are relatively inconsequential in the big scheme of global impact.

Most importantly, I'm not ignoring Earth Hour as a sort of right wing protest, I'm ignoring it because I'm not ready to go back to living in a log cabin, grinding flour in a grist mill powered by the local stream, using a cotton loom to make my shirts and hunt and grow my own food. I'm not interested in using candles for lighting and a bow and arrow to fend off roaming grizzly bears.

I like my car (it's domestic by the way, not a Japanese hybrid), I like the Internet, I like television. I enjoy central heating and having working defibrillators at hospitals. I like that I can fly to Aruba (okay, I can't afford it right now, but I like that I have the option available to me). I like that antibiotics exist. I like that the police have guns and that the military is equipped to defend not only the United States but the entire Western World. I like having durable shoes when I go outside of my house. I don't care if they are made from leather, rubber, plastic or steel. As long as I don't cut my foot because I'm walking around in moccasins.

By the way, I love eating meat, especially red meat. I don't do it all the time because it can get unhealthy. But I'm not about to restrict myself to a vegan diet because I love all the fluffy cows or I can't eat sea-kittens. I like animals, but I also like to eat some of them. I have nothing against cows, pigs or chickens. I would not be mean to one I saw say, standing on a street corner. But they taste great. Either God made them that way on purpose or else they evolved with a major, major flaw - tastiness. Take your pick.

Here's a suggestion for those of you who disagree with me on this - go try to live the Cro-Magnon lives you espouse and see how quickly you are shocked back into reality and come running back to civilization.

Obama - cutting defence spending

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Wednesday the U.S. government was paying too much for things it did not need and ordered a crackdown on spending "plagued by massive cost overruns and outright fraud."

The Democrat, under fire from Republicans for the $3.5 trillion price tag for his 2010 budget plan, also took aim at predecessor George W. Bush and noted the cost of government contracts had doubled to more than half a trillion dollars over the past eight years.

THINGS IT DOESN'T NEED????????? That's the pot calling the kettle...wait, can I say that?

You just passed an $800 billion questionable stimulus package and now you are talking about a $400 Billion omnibus bill and you want to cut defense spending because it's wasteful?

Just come out and tell the truth - you don't like the military. You don't want to spend money on the military. The middle-of-the-road facade is falling faster than the Dow Jones.

Keith Olbermann - hypocrite

I enjoy apolitical humor. One of my favorite shows is the Opie & Anthony radio show on XM satellite radio, and on some FM stations. Between the two of them and the obnoxious but hilariously cutting regular 'guest' Jim Norton, I get my fill of sarcastic, albeit frequently vulgar humor.

The boys are friendly with Sean Hannity, and Anthony at least leans towards conservative, and Jim too has a slight right lean to him. So that's a plus.

But once in a while there's an added bonus where they take to task the likes of Keith Olbermann. When radio "shock jocks" are calling you out for hypocrisy, you know that you are really near the bottom of the credibility scale;
