Maybe it's not a certainty!

Per this tweet, maybe the latest, dreadfully awful Democrat spending bill is not only not a certainty, it may be dead in the water.

The power of the presidential tweet

The president can tweet for good, the problem is that the media will not mention it because it's not part of their narrative.

News of President Trump’s tweet in support of a brain-damaged baby sentenced to death by the United Kingdom was largely absent from the home page of establishment media sites early Monday.

Outlets including ABC, MSNBC, CNN, The New York Times and The Washington Post opted instead to feature continuing coverage of a day-old tweet from Trump Sunday morning that escalated his war with the media. These outlets, in particular CNN, have been providing wall to wall coverage of Trump’s recent tweets about the media, at the expense of other stories.

So there's that. But no Russia, no Trump is a monster. It won't get coverage, so like other conservative places on the web, I'm sharing because it is fair to know.  Additionally, the president is specifically offering to help. If the media were to pick up the story, maybe something could be done by medical personnel in America.

Welcome to 2008, Blogger.

Google has finally allowed Blogger to join 2008 by creating a "featured post" widget.  You may have noticed that I've added one to the right hand side of my blog.  Unfortunately, it still allows only one as far as I can tell and as such remains bounds behind WordPress.  At least it's still not leaps and bounds, just bounds.

As far as welcome to 2008 goes, I keep reading that blogging has gone the way of the dodo, having been surpassed by micro-blogging, tweeting, Instagram, Vine and such.  So I'm outdated blogging here.  But it's hard to fit the principles of Supply and Demand, or Unintended Consequences for example, into a Vine video.  So as far as reaching millennials goes, I guess for conservative bloggers like me, it's a lost cause.

But for the rest of you, I've succumbed to the Google beast and added the featured post widget, and will continue blogging along for the foreseeable future, whatever that future might bring.

Did Akin just adjust his tweets?

Earlier I was on Rep. Todd Akin's twitter account and I saw some notes about the liberal media and an announcement pending on him staying in the race.  Now it appears to be gone.  The latest post showing right now is from Aug 14th.

Is that a sign he's withdrawn from the race?  It's not clear yet, but he seems to be digging in, despite all the calls from the right to step aside for the cause.

South Carolina GOP Debate #1

Some random observations from the first GOP debate tonight.

I'm not sure the GOP debate will have done much to alter opinions nationally, but I think people in South Carolina who were paying the most attention will probably drift away from Mitt Romney to some degree, and will end up amongst the others, but probably not much support.

Rick Santorum answered a lot of questions well, but was grating in the way he turned answers about his opinion turned into attacks on others like Ron Paul or Newt Gingrich.  I'm not sure that it's appealing to go after 

Newt Gingrich started weak on Bain Capital re: Mitt Romney, but got a lot of applause and a lot of positive tweets on the occasions he talked about the economy and poverty.

Fox News was running a tweet-in on their live web coverage where people could tweet their opinion on whether each response to a question by a candidate was an answer or a dodge. Gingrich did well, Santorum mediocre and Romney poorly after the first hour.  I'm not convinced the general public sees the debates through the same lens as hardcore politically junkies who are tweeting in their feedback.

Mitt Romney attacked McCain Feingold campaign finance reform laws - rightly - as being a disaster.  I wonder how his recent endorser, John McCain feels about that.

Overall, I think Gingrich won, but I'm not sure it was by much. Santorum was decent, Perry did pretty well and Ron Paul was Ron Paul.

Jimmy Fallon: Not a peep but a tweet

For those who haven't heard Michele Bachmann was on Jimmy Fallon's show yesterday and there was a problem with the intro music that played as she walked on.

Michele Bachmann decided to up the ante today with NBC over the intro song played for her appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Appearing on Fox News, Bachmann accepted Fallon’s personal apology published yesterday on Twitter but said that the network also owes her one for the band’s choice of “Lyin’ Ass Bitch,” not to mention the boasting that followed from the band’s drummer, Questlove.

Canada - We've got some stones.

Damn America, we're showing you up!  Israel, are you paying attention to the country that was the first to walk out on Ahmedinejad at the U.N. during his hate speech against Israel?  Hint:  It wasn't the U.S.  It was Canada.  And we have little time for Palestinian hate speech too, even if it is in tweet form.

Meanwhile at the White House (courtesy of FT);

Exactly a year ago this week, President Barack Obama stood at the podium at the UN General Assembly and declared his support for a Palestinian state. “Palestinians will never know the pride and dignity that comes with their own state,” Mr Obama told the general assembly, unless the two parties reached a peace agreement. 

So it will be some degree of awkwardness that Mr Obama returns to the UN this week and directs his representatives to vote against a plan that would lead to Palestinians achieving that exact destination, albeit by a different route. 

Indeed, the US president will be acutely aware how hypocritical he must appear: voicing support for democratic transitions across the Middle East at the same time as scuppering Palestinian aspirations for recognition. Mr Obama hardly wants to be seen as being on the wrong side of the change sweeping through the Arab world.
