Sunny Hostage, I mean Hostin, apology

Everyone's probably already seen this already but I was really busy today. Sunny Hostin looking like a hostage in this video, reading what shouldn't have to be forced on the clucking hens at The View.  Then again we all know what that show is...

Collectively, we conservatives probably owe Chris Christie an apology

Back in 2012 Hurricane Sandy hit the northeast and New Jersey, among other states was pretty hard hit.  Then President Obama offered then New Jersey governor emergency assistance.  Chris Christie was appreciative and conservatives were...NOT HAPPY with Chris Christie.

I think we conservatives may owe Chris Christie an apology.

After all, president Trump offered assistance to Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler who very impolitely refused.  And now, a Trump supporter was killed on the street as a result. Ted Wheeler has blood on his hands.  Chris Christie does not.  Chris Christie's ability to rise above partisanship was very untimely for conservatives hoping to defeat Obama in 2012.  But it was the right thing to do.  And now, as an unintended consequence, instead of Mitt Romney as president we have Donald Trump.  And for that we should be extremely thankful.

Maybe the judge should apologize

A Texas hair salon owner got sentenced to 7 days in jail and fined $7,000 not for not shutting down her salon during the COVID-19 lockdown, but for refusing to apologize per the judge's sentencing demand.

I get the importance of the rule of law. I get her position  as well.  But this is not a cut and dry, back and white situation.  What is clear, is that the judge was overly harsh in his sentencing.  This is especially true in a county where felons were being released due to coronavirus concerns.  That's not justice.

The judge may have believed he was trying to do the right thing, but seeing the fallout, perhaps the judge needs to be the one to apologize.

Ilhan Omar, racist or misunderstood?

With a history of Antisemitism, Ilhan Omar is trying to back peddle via a weak apology for her latest antisemitic remarks on Twitter (who clearly, and counter to their own stated rules, are not going to ban her).

But she's a racist and is not being called out by enough people, particularly within her own Democratic party.

Kathy Griffin career implosion, day 2

Earlier today I watched Kathy Griffin's version of the Obama apology tour mixed with Hillary Clinton style meltdown.

After what appeared to be a heartfelt apology for going to far, today Griffin was all about blameshifting and justifying her action. If the grotesque, ISIS-esque 'comedy' was not career suicide, today's news conference should do it.
Griffin, who asserted that she has been contacted by the Secret Service, said the Trumps are “trying to ruin my rights forever.”
She sounds like a 6 year old. The Secret Service are engaged in due diligence - something Griffin should have done prior to participating in a mock beheading of a sitting president. As for the Trumps - how did she expect them to react? Stop pretending to be a victim mere days after you engaged in a mock bloody execution of a sitting president. Nobody's buying it, not even CNN.

IRS - targeting the Tea Party since 2011

Yesterday the scandal - one of a few in the headlines of late - broke. The IRS, an arm of the government, was targeting conservative Tea Party groups leading up to the 2012 election.  While the IRS apologized, it was too late - the election is long over now.   In it's apology the IRS tried to minimize and isolate the scope of the unconscionable infraction. But was that a fair assessment they built into their apology?

Well, there's this:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Senior Internal Revenue Service officials knew agents were targeting tea party groups as early as 2011, according to a draft of an inspector general's report obtained by The Associated Press that seemingly contradicts public statements by the IRS commissioner.

The IRS apologized Friday for what it acknowledged was "inappropriate" targeting of conservative political groups during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status. The agency blamed low-level employees, saying no high-level officials were aware.

But on June 29, 2011, Lois G. Lerner, who heads the IRS division that oversees tax-exempt organizations, learned at a meeting that groups were being targeted, according to the watchdog's report. At the meeting, she was told that groups with "Tea Party," ''Patriot" or "9/12 Project" in their names were being flagged for additional and often burdensome scrutiny, the report says.

The 9-12 Project is a group started by conservative TV personality Glenn Beck.

Lerner instructed agents to change the criteria for flagging groups "immediately," the report says.
So it seems the answer is "no - the IRS was not fair in their assessment of the problem that they built into their apology.

Jimmy Fallon: Not a peep but a tweet

For those who haven't heard Michele Bachmann was on Jimmy Fallon's show yesterday and there was a problem with the intro music that played as she walked on.
Via Hot Air;
Michele Bachmann decided to up the ante today with NBC over the intro song played for her appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Appearing on Fox News, Bachmann accepted Fallon’s personal apology published yesterday on Twitter but said that the network also owes her one for the band’s choice of “Lyin’ Ass Bitch,” not to mention the boasting that followed from the band’s drummer, Questlove.

David Frum: apologize

In the previous focus of the Obama administration playground spat with Rush Limbaugh, I'd looked at why I thought the short-term gain for President Obama would give way to long term loss and long term gain for Republicans, and for Rush. Obviously it will take time for that to be borne out. It's a lot easier to gauge the short term gain. It seems the Republican party and conservatives will never be immune to Keystone Cops moments, the most recent blunder being the David Frum Newsweek hit on Rush.

For shame Mr. Frum. You've played right into the short term benefit of the Democrats - not only do you provide a distraction from the real issues, you sew discord within the conservative ranks. Every word fired in anger at another conservative is a moment wasted that could have been used to fire at the debacle of economic malaise (that's right - I said it), that has began to settle in over the Obama economy.

David Frum spends a paragraph at the beginning of his Newsweek article trying to prove his conservative bona fides. He even uses the phrase. And the list is impressive. But David Frum you are wrong on this and you have managed to squander in a single article all the bona fides you listed.

Rush is not assuming the mantle of leadership - he's simply outlining his positions on issues, most of which, if not all, are deeply rooted in conservatism. The fact that you find him bombastic in style is of NO consequence. Not everyone has a Canadian's temperament. And to say that he is not the face of conservatism belies the fact that his accomplishments for conservatism far outweigh your own.

Further, Mr. Frum, you state;
Rush knows what he is doing. The worse conservatives do, the more important Rush
becomes as leader of the ardent remnant. The better conservatives succeed, the
more we become a broad national governing coalition, the more Rush will be
sidelined.

Isn't that exactly what you are trying for your own relevance to do by bombastically disparaging Rush?

Really Mr. Frum, you owe Rush, and all conservatives an apology. Rush is not your enemy. Know your enemy. It is the liberal press, the liberal leadership, and liberal institutions. Use your knowledge to fight the real enemy. Otherwise, don't waste your breath.
