Jordan Peterson on gambling

I'm off to Vegas for a week today (for the first time ever) though I will continue posting.  However, I thought in the spirit of irony I thought I'd share a video.  One of my intellectual heroes, Jordan Peterson ripping on gambling, although specifically government run gambling.

Nancy Pelosi's own border consists of underlings

The guy who set up the GoFundMe page for the public to provide private, non-governmental funding for a border wall went to collect a buck from Nancy Pelosi who jokingly said she'd accept a buck for the wall.

Ironicaly, he ran into a gatekeeper, because Nancy Pelosi just can't allow anyone coming into her office, she has to choose who is allowed in to speak to her. That's hilarious.

In case you missed the irony, she's using a wall of associates to block entry.  Apparently Nancy Pelosi is irony impaired. 

Thursday Hillary Bash - Irony

Not ironic because it's not Thursday, that aspect is just dumb.  Reason TV, points out the (also dumb) irony of voting for Clinton because it'll be historic because she's a woman.

Irony, American style

Americans don't get fourth Amendment protections from the Constitutions because the government feels like it can blanket collect email and phone data on its own citizens even though they haven't broken the law.

Illegal immigrants should be granted amnesty and given a path to citizenship because the government doesn't know what to do with them.  They broke the law but are being rewarded for it.

That's irony, American style.

Here's a bonus irony for you - those illegal immigrants, if nothing changes, will have their Constitutional rights systematically taken away too, after they become citizens.

Thursday Hillary Bash - Generations Edition

Making no sense whatsoever.

Hillary Clinton's daughter Chelsea doesn't get the irony that she wouldn't be around to make a statement like this if what she stated should have been different had been different like she wanted (whew);

New York, NY (CFAM) — From the stage at the recent Women Deliver conference, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s daughter Chelsea revealed that her much-admired maternal grandmother was the child of unwed teenage parents who “did not have access to services that are so crucial that Planned Parenthood helps provide.”

Chelsea’s grandmother was born of an unintended pregnancy. And new research shows that her family is not alone in treasuring a person who – if Planned Parenthood had been successful – would not have been born.

“Every child a wanted child” is the rallying cry of family planning organizations that promote abortion as a way to achieve that goal. The New York Times Magazine recently described a study of women who were turned away from abortion clinics because their pregnancies were too far along. Researchers found that in the vast majority of cases – 95% – the mothers bonded with their babies. A significant percentage later denied having ever sought an abortion, despite the fact they were included in the study on that basis.

Her much beloved maternal grandmother could have ended up as an abortion and Chelsea Clinton wouldn't have been around to endorse abortion if abortion had been around in her great-grandparents' time.  That is all that needs to be said about her comments.

However, one has to wonder if Hillary has had some thoughts similar to Chelsea's having raised her and shaped her daughter's views.  She needs to be asked, on the record, for an opinion on her daughter's statement.

Quick observation - NSA' scandal's biggest loser

I was reading Bob J's Rants moments ago and he made a point that I think encapsulates the entire problem that has bubbled to the surface since the 9-11 attacks.  The NSA's scandal's biggest loser is you.  Yes, you.

You have a segment of the global population - jihadists - intent on wiping out your country on on hand, and on the other hand you have a government not sophisticated enough to capture or monitor terror suspects without majorly eroding your personal privacy.  

The country the jihadists want to destroy might not be around for them to come after if they ever got aroud to doing it successfully.

Ironic.

Omnipotence as impotence

The infrastructure's fixed now, right?

The IRS scandal seems to be the top headline today. While the distraction from Benghazi has traction, the IRS scandal does merit a full accounting.  Here are some thoughts on the Obama defense.

The current liberal defense of this incompetent, self-serving and dishonest administration (from no less than David Axelrod himself, for example) is that the government is so big, it is impossible to self-police every corner of it.  If you are conservative and hear that argument used you think "of course it is!". If you are liberal you hear it and think"we need more laws and more people in government to police the government. "

Liberal folly is evident only to those not caught up in its circular logic.  Big government that doesn't work should not lead to bigger government.  When the government has grown to have near omnipotent power to act at will, it becomes impotent to be able to act cohesively or correctly. Local interpretation of directives is subject to a myriad of staff. And that's just one problem with big government.

And yet this is the liberal defense of Obama in some quarters in a nutshell.  Yep, blame. Again.  Blame the lack of government synergy.  Blame local potentates within the bureaucracy. Just be sure the president is untouched.  The media and liberal pundits are the president's secret service.  The irony is that those defenders of Obama are making an argument against his objective of bigger government in order to keep him in power to continue to grow government.

They are making our case for us but they will fail to see it that way. They see it as an end (bigger government) that the means (blaming big government)  justifies. In fact, they may not even realize the irony. They just want to ride out this storm.

The irony of being out of work

I haven't posted about what I'm about to discuss because this blog is not about me, it's about ideas, and this post is going to be somewhat personal.  But not totally, there is a bigger point to be made.  Last November I lost my job.  It was the second time in just over two years that I've lost my job.  The first time it was about downsizing.  This time it had more to do with things like salary and differing viewpoints on corporate culture.  In any case, the reasons are not important.  What is important is how the layoff has impacted me, and whether it has affected my views on the social safety net.  The short answer is - it has.  But it's not in a way you'd expect if you 're worldview is that of a liberal.

North Korea is a problem guns might have to solve

This is a mobile post.  Don't expect any fancy formatting or an embedded photo.  I haven't mobile posted in a few years or a few phones. 

In any case, I don't have a lot to share except one observation.  Attention it seems has drifted from gun rights/gun safety to the apparently existential nuclear war threat from North Korea.   The irony is that there is a belligerent actor in the scenario and in order to prevent any dangerous attacks, the United States has ensured that it has armed itself effectively in order to counter any aggressive or hostile acts.

You know, because a well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Ironic Obama War on Terror Moment

The president has been criticized for an air strike that killed an American citizen who was classified as an enemy combatant.  Now you can add his son to the list.

A son of the U.S.-born Al Qaeda cleric Anwar Al Awlaki was among seven suspected jihadist militants killed in a trio of apparent U.S. air strikes in Yemen, a member of his tribe said Saturday. 

"Abderrahman Anwar Al Awlaki was killed in the raid," the tribal source said, adding that he received confirmation from the militant-controlled Yemeni hospital where the dead and wounded from Friday evening's strikes were taken.

The irony?  Look back to March 2009.

The Obama administration stopped calling Guantanamo inmates "enemy combatants" on Friday and incorporated international law as its basis for holding the prisoners while it works to close the facility...

The Obama administration has said some of the Guantanamo detainees, now numbering about 240, will be freed while others will be put on trial. A third category involves some prisoners deemed too dangerous to be released.

Go back two and half years and the enemy combatants were to be freed or given a non-military trial.  Now, the president is approving drone strikes on people without a trial of any sort.  It looks like there is a fourth category the president and Eric Holder failed to disclose back in 2009:

Too dangerous to live. 

Global Warming Obama Irony

I'm sure all eyes today will be on the fact that unemployment fell below 9% for the first time in seemingly forever.  While 8.9% is nothing to crow about, I'm sure the Democrats will.  In any case it will likely overshadow a story that speaks to the general irony of the Obama Presidency.  That irony being that the President's stated intentions do not match his actions, and the outcome of his actions are often diametrically opposed to his 'intentions'.

Obama still needs more money

Flashback to 2008:

Irony:  Giving more money to someone more than willing to spend it for you. 

Bigger irony: Putting him in a position to take it from you at will.

Biggest irony:  The person who took the sign didn't destroy it, so they probably put it on their own lawn.  You know the old saying - lie down with dogs, wake up with fleas.  Or trillions in new debt.  Whichever. Theft begets theft, this time on a national scale.

I wonder if they still are Obama supporters.  Okay, no I don't.
