Good luck with that

President Obama is threatening a shutdown of government?  Really? Good luck with that.  I say the GOP should let him go ahead with it.  They've been on the wrong side of public opinion on shutdowns before.  They know the sting.  Not only would it further crater his popularity, it would poison the well for Hillary Clinton.  In effect, the only Democrat with the ability to get elected president in the foreseeable future would be an African American, or Hispanic.

Maybe that`s his plan - to make the party beholden to racial politics.

Ever the party to put politics after national interest snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, the GOP has a plan to keep the government open for business and rescue Obama from his own folly.

That`s just great

I'm conservative and racist

I have a confession to make -- I'm conservative and I'm a racist.  Okay, at least according to liberal doctrine I'm a racist. A couple of my recent posts seem to support that conclusion. Each night after the convention speeches I posted some quick, first-instinct assessments of the speeches.  There seems to be a pattern in my assessments that looks like it might be racist.  Parenthetically, I should add, I'm a middle-aged white guy, which makes the racism on my part extra evil.

Did President Obama Really Say 'Mongrel'?

The President went on The View yesterday and said some more things about race that are frankly a little confusing. From the Beer Summit to the Shirley Sherrod situation, the President seems to shoot from the hip when it comes to racial issues and then deal with the damage afterwards.  Keep in mind that while the President may have known the questions in advance (I don't know for sure if that's the case), he certainly would have been unscripted as compared to a teleprompter speech. He may have had some talking points to work with, but it's a free form discussion in large part. It shouldn't come as a surprise that President Obama has some Biden-esque moments on open forum situations - coming to mind immediately are his gaffes with Jay Leno on the Special Olympics or his campaign trail talks about visiting 57 states.  But this gaffe might be more problematic.
