My wife, a long time Diet Coke fan, is switching to Diet Pepsi because Coke is woke.  Ironically  Coke seems to have drank the SJW Kool Aid.

For those confused by the media, Trump supporters are not a cult

I was reading s Drudge link today, to the woefully liberal New Republic about how Trump can win re-election in 2020.  This as he's announced he will run for re-election.  Well into the article, political polling analyst Larry Sabato had this to offer:

“I would say the most distinctive thing about him other than his obnoxiousness is that his followers aren’t a base,” Sabato said. “They’re a cult. This is a cult. They’ve ceded their independent thinking to this man. This is the most intense cult that I can remember in American politics.”

After the visceral reaction of  - "screw you Larry"; you either have drunk the liberal Kool-Aid or else are speaking for a liberal audience and being deliberately condescending and vitriolic in your analysis of Trump supporters - there's actually a reasonable retort to it.

Firstly, like probably every.single.Trump.supporter, I do not agree with the president on everything.  There are things he's pushed for that I think are bad ideas.  However, on the whole I support him.  The same cannot be said for a lot of Democrat supporters on the left;

At least let's call it a saw-off (a tie).  But here's the real problem with Sabato's analysis - he's looking at it from the wrong lens.  The liberal media has pushed SO HARD at president Trump on everything that they have created a reflexive reaction among his supporters - they have solidified the support of Trump supporters as a reaction to their over-the-top negativity.  It's never been a cult of personality - it's a reaction to bias, and even deeper than that, it's a reaction to the liberal cultural elite.  It's not even about Trump, it's about an equal and opposite reaction to the liberal hammering of conservatives.

I used to read Sabato's blog regularly, but he's proven on more than one occasion to be less than factually based.  Maybe it's time to move on.  As far as the whole cult of personality thing, it's way off base.

No way out for GOP

One guy, no so much.

A long and bruising battle for the GOP nomination for president this year didn't bother me. Now it does. What changed? Nothing. Except there was one factor I hadn't taken into consideration. I've been pointing to Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama 2008 as the model for a long and hotly contested primary not being harmful ultimately to candidate Obama. But this year is not 2008 for one key reason. In 2008 Republicans could not keep their powder dry because they were busy waging a primary of their own. President Obama does not have that concern this time around. As he continues to travel the country raising a war chest for the general election, Republicans are travelling the country beating each other up and spending money.

The former issue was one I felt was an advantage for the GOP. It hones their debate skills, campaign skills, speeches and their ability to handle a hostile press. I still feel that despite the wounds, it would be a net positive for the eventual nominee. But the money thing, that's a killer. We need a candidate prepared to go blow for blow with Obama. That will take a lot of money.

Ann Coulter - Kool Aid

I don't get Anne Coulter.  The outspoken conservative has clearly drank the Mitt Romney Kool-Aid and is defending him.  It's one thing to think he's the most electable candidate and the only one who can beat Obama but it's an entirely different matter to distort the truth in the defense of Romneycare aka Obamacare.

What gives?  Seriously, this makes no sense to me.  Is she up for a Press Secretary post in a Romney administration?   I know I'm late to this conversation, but I really don't get it.

Is Santorum the anti-Romney firewall?

It could be.  With 3 wins in 5 states, Romney is indeed the prohibitive favorite to win the Republican nomination.  Newt Gingrich has clearly stumbled and isn't going to factor in the top two in the states going tonight - Colorado, Missouri and Minnesota.  Add to that the fact that Rick Santorum is the most consistently conservative candidate in the race and he's leading in some of the polling.

Whether Rick Santorum is ultimately the most conservative yet still electable candidate in the race, is another question.  But he needs to win tonight and anyone not having imbibed the Romney Kool-Aid should be cheering him on.

Rush Limbaugh drinks the Romney Kool Aid

99.7% of the time?

There's a lot of things going on in the Republican race right now, and a lot of surprises are going to occur - that's to be expected.  However, the one thing I would never have expected is Rush Limbaugh aligning with Mitt Romney.  In going after Newt Gingrich he has done exactly that.

Rush Limbaugh is a paragon of conservative values, particularly when it comes to the issues of individual liberty and free market capitalism. . If Mitt Romney were not leading and likely to win the Republican nomination, I'm not sure Rush Limbaugh would react to the Newt Gingrich attacks on Romney as he did.

What the hell is with Ben Stein?

Yesterday, and again today he's out there arguing for higher taxes on the rich. Did someone sneak him the liberal Kool Aid?

WTF dude??? No sense of offshoring, or the rich withholding spending or investment? Even 100% taxation on those he talks about is a drop in the bucket.  Why jump straight to 'tax the rich'?

Taxes are a line in the sand because spending is the problem, not revenue. If you know a heroin addict who can't afford his habit you try to get him to kick the habit (for more reasons than just money), you don't go out and rob a bank to support the continued heroin use!

The world is surely losing its grip on sanity when Ben Stein joins the dark side.

Conservatives against Palin

Understand this, everyone has their own horse in the race. Therefore either overtly, or covertly, everyone on the right is not desirous of seeing Sarah Palin as the GOP nominee in 2012. And therefore some have a vested interest in tearing her apart at every opportunity. Perhaps even a desire to do so.
