Here's a happy paranoid thought

As if you need something else to worry about as far as an ever more intrusive big government goes, I've got one for you. I'm not a paranoid alarmist conspiracy theorist, I'm simply pointing out that the possibility exists and we are now one step closer to that possibility than we were less than one year ago.

Have you seen the commercial by OnStar where the stolen Escalade (I think it's an Escalade) is remotely slowed down and pulled over by an OnStar operator while it's being chase by police? It's called Stolen Vehicle Slowdown. OnStar is a great idea for that and other reasons. But, did you know...

OnStar is a subsidiary of General Motors, which of course is majority owned by the U.S. government. That's the same government that considers homegrown terrorism of the right wing variety worthy of being on a watch list.

Which means that they have the motive, means and opportunity to stop you if they don't trust your politics. That is, if you happen to own an OnStar equipped GM vehicle. But that's okay because everyone has the option to buy a Toyota anyway. And nobody in the government has it in for Toyota, right?

Too paranoid? Probably. But if the OnStar feature starts coming standard, think about trading in your Malibu for on of those sticky accelerator Toyota Camrys. At least that way you'll die quickly instead of a Remote Vehicle Slowdown roadside incident.
