Patreon banning conservatives

 Patreon bans people whom they hate under the guise of removing "hate speech".  I've never heard of Sydney Watson before, but now I'm a fan.  Thanks Patreon.

YouTube, Suzy Lu, content and free speech

YouTube has managed a particular situation poorly.  The details of the case itself are important only insofar as they are indicative of how YouTube will interact with any content publisher as well as complainant when it comes to copyright and cyberbullying or harassment.  The best way to put it is inconsistent.

A redacted (yes, redacted) background video on the Suzy Lu YouTube copyright situation.  Keep in mind this is not about her, it's about how YouTube reacted to the situation (which is past half way into the video but the prior parts provide context, albeit in an anti-Suzy-Lu way (no judgement either way, that's not my point here)).

YouTube's reversal of the channel termination is odd.  It would seem as though the views matter to YouTube more than copyright violation - in this case at least.

Free speech is being impacted and YouTube is slowly, continuously sliding into the realm of publisher instead of a platform:

Let's create our own mass migration problem

With conservatives clearly personae non gratae (please excuse my Latin, I only got one year of it in school decades ago) in a multitude of cyberspace locales (Facebook, Twitter, Patreon, Youtube and Instagram among others), it's time we avoided what Tim Pool describes as our ultimate demise and take control of our own fate.

What does that mean for us? Where do we go? David Rubin and Jordan Peterson discussed creating an alternative. We're supportive but still waiting.

In the meantime, I've started considering Minds.com it advertises itself as non-partisan. That it's a big selling point is a sad commentary on the American technocracy, but they are still a breath of fresh air. I'm not being paid by anyone to say this, I'm just looking around and it's all I can see at this point that is a viable option. I'd suggest we make these techno-corps pay for their own bias with a mass exodus to Minds. Then we can see if they smarten or wither away.

The Patreon Exodus is going into high gear.

Dave Rubin and Jordan Peterson today announced they are leaving Patreon for politically motivated censorship, effective January 15th, 2019.  This is a major decision for both men.  Wherever they end up, and others who have been barred from the Patreon platform whom you might follow, follow them there.

If you have your own Patreon account, I urge you to cancel it as I have, as well.

The Culture War going on around you

You may not be aware of this, but conservatives for a few years now have been getting shadow banned on Twitter by some secretive oversight team, their websites and pages being de-emphasized on Google, their posts treated as fake news on Facebook and slowly but surely the cultural de-platforming of conservative ideas has spread, most recently to Patreon, where Sargon of Akkad said something (albeit recklessly and in poor taste), not recently and not even on their platform and his account was closed.

This is a logical extension of public shaming of conservatives that has gone on for years.

But there is hope in the making, via Dave Rubin and Jordan Peterson, two heavy load-bearers on the free speech and anti-progressive side of the aisle.  Just as I mentioned before on a related issue - this is something that deserves your support.

I deleted my Patreon Account today, here's why

Just like Twitter, Patreon has set up some sort of Trust and Safety Counsel.  That counsel is really a policing free speech counsel.  Look what happened to Sargon of Akkad.  I'm not saying I support the language he used, but the policing being done is clearly, CLEARLY, selective and targeted at conservatives whom they are holding to a much higher standard than they are with progressives. How can I stick around on the platform in the face of this?

Here's what Dave Rubin had to say as he mulled over a response to Patreon himself.

Me leaving Patreon is singularly, pointless.  But if we leave en masse then it possibly makes a difference. I urge you to do the same. Except - where do we go?  What's obviously lacking is a conservative platform that encompasses the functionalities of Patreon, Twitter, Facebook and Google. Why don't we have that? No one has stepped up because it is a massive undertaking requiring huge funding and it has a slow growth path before becoming financially viable. But it is so necessary because what conservatives are facing is a slow virtual silencing in an era when virtual presence is what matters.

Nevertheless we only have two options at the crux of the situation - capitulate and meekly die off as a voice, or fight back.  If a company takes enough of a hit then maybe it reconsiders its Gestapo tactics against the right.  And maybe, just maybe an alternative might, in light of the obvious opportunity, emerge.

With Google's black box control of AdSense, being a conservative blogger with 8+ years of frequent posts, nearly 1.5 million page views as of today you'd think I'd have made more than $300 from this blog via AdSense. Nope.  There's no issues so far as AdSense has found. Granted I haven't invested in SEO optimization but with only $300 in revenue, why would I? It would remove eight years of paltry profits with one attempt.

So I've decided to try a different route.  Today I joined Patreon.  If you like my content you can donate at your leisure.  There's a link in the upper right of this blog. And of course don't forget to refer your friends.  If this goes reasonably well, I might try to purchase some production software and make the jump to a Youtube vlog and producing some videos.
