Turkish coup in progress

Armed Forces in Turkey claim they have taken control of the country. This is not necessarily a bad thing for the West, Turkey had drifted away from democracy and towards a more Islamist style rule recently. And of course with a war on it's southern border raging in Syria, a recent bombing at Ataturk airport and even the attack yesterday in Nice France, Turkey has been in a tense situation for a while.
According to Turkish media, the military statement said the army had taken action to: "reinstall the constitutional order, democracy, human rights and freedoms, to ensure that the rule of law once again reigns in the country, for the law and order to be reinstated."

The military statement went on to say that "all international agreements and commitments will remain. We pledge that good relations with all world countries will continue."

The statement came shortly after prime minister Binali Yildirim confirmed that a faction of the military had engaged in what appeared to be an attempted coup.

He called for calm, saying security forces are doing what is necessary to resolve the situation.

Mr Yildirim warned that those responsible for this "illegal attempt " will pay the "highest price."
Turkey is a strategic geo-political country. Erdogan was not a healthy leader for that country.  If the coup turns out to be successful, I would not be inclined to shed a tear.
