Federal Report: Global Warming Is Disrupting Your Life

DID YOU KNOW:  Your life has been adversely affected by this global warming thing that mankind has clearly caused.  From the isn't-this-convenient-timing-before-a-midterm-election files, via AP:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Global warming is rapidly turning America the beautiful into America the stormy, sneezy and dangerous, according to a new federal scientific report. And those shining seas? Rising and costly, the report says.

Climate change's assorted harms "are expected to become increasingly disruptive across the nation throughout this century and beyond," the National Climate Assessment concluded Tuesday. The report emphasizes how warming and its all-too-wild weather are changing daily lives, even using the phrase "climate disruption" as another way of saying global warming.

Still, it's not too late to prevent the worst of climate change, says the 840-page report, which the White House is highlighting as it tries to jump-start often stalled efforts to curb heat-trapping gases.

...The report also says "climate change threatens human health and well-being in many ways." Those include smoke-filled air from more wildfires, smoggy air from pollution, more diseases from tainted food, water, mosquitoes and ticks. And then there's more pollen because of warming weather and the effects of carbon dioxide on plants. Ragweed pollen season has lengthened by 24 days in the Minnesota-North Dakota region between 1995 and 2011, the report says. In other parts of the Midwest, the pollen season has gotten longer by anywhere from 11 days to 20 days.

And all this will come with a hefty cost, the report says.
No mention of any countervailing views in the AP story, because, as we all know, the science is settled.  I would comment more on the absurdity of this story but I've had about as much as I can stomach right now.

  1. Paraphrasing Richard Feynman: Regardless of how many experts believe it or how many organizations concur, if it doesn’t agree with observation, it’s wrong.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), some politicians and many others mislead the gullible public by stubbornly continuing to proclaim that increased atmospheric carbon dioxide is a primary cause of global warming.

Measurements demonstrate that they are wrong.

CO2 increase from 1800 to 2001 was 89.5 ppmv (parts per million by volume). The atmospheric carbon dioxide level has now (through March, 2014) increased since 2001 by 27.04 ppmv (an amount equal to 30.2% of the increase that took place from 1800 to 2001) (1800, 281.6 ppmv; 2001, 371.13 ppmv; March, 2014, 398.17 ppmv).

The average global temperature trend since 2001 is flat (5 reporting agencies Graphs through 2013 have been added.

That is the observation. No amount of spin can rationalize that the temperature increase to 2001 was caused by a CO2 increase of 89.5 ppmv but that 27.04 ppmv additional CO2 increase had no effect on the average global temperature trend after 2001.

Before you think cherry picking, examine . It considers all measurements since before 1900 and corroborates that CO2 change has no significant influence on climate.

This link also shows that there are only two primary drivers of average global temperature change. They very accurately explain the measured and reported up and down temperature trends since before 1900 with R2>0.9 (correlation coefficient = 0.95) and provide credible estimates back to the low temperatures of the Little Ice Age (1610).

    1. Thanks for that Dan. I've argued in the past that the science doesn't reconcile with the rhetoric, and quoted a number of great sources in support of that. I should have done so again here to support the point. Now I don't need to do so.

Anyone who says the science is "settled" is either gullible or selling something.
