Bad GDP: Beware, the onslaught is coming

Invading with false ideas.
Uh oh.  Are you ready for the new onslaught?  The economy is sluggish. The latest quarterly GDP number is at an anemic 1.3% growth.  That's not really a recovery, it's not really much more than stagnation, and in this case, stagnation means at a very high unemployment rate.  That's a problem.  The onslaught will be something else.  The onslaught will be about blame.

Get ready.  The blame will be about blaming Republicans for this stagnation.  Their intransigence on the budget deal is going to be blamed, and blamed hard for the GDP doldrums.  The Democrats have their opportunity to stop blaming Bush and start blaming current Republicans for the economic and fiscal woes of the country.  As ridiculous as that is, the Democrats have a method to their madness.  Volume.  Say the lie often enough and it becomes conventional wisdom.

Alinksy's Rules for Radicals, a guiding progressive principle starts with the most important rule:

Rule 1: Power is not only what you have, but what an opponent thinks you have. If your organization is small, hide your numbers in the dark and raise a din that will make everyone think you have many more people than you do.

Repeating a story line ceaselessly hides the true strength of the argument. If it become conventional wisdom that the GOP is responsible for the stalling economy because they are holding up the debt ceiling debate, the truth becomes harder to break through.

Get ready. The onslaught is coming.
