SOTU 4: Which Speech Did America Watch?

This graph speaks for itself. Which speech was America watching during the State of the Union address? Not the same tired one I saw. Apparently quite a few Americans liked what they saw or at least, hated it less than usual.

It speaks to momentum and the GOP in the 2010 mid-term elections. It may be a blip, but blips can be quite consequential if played correctly.

The good news on the Obama's bump post-SOTU, is that Obama's bumps are often very brief and his ratings come back to reality fairly quickly. The bad news is, his speeches still move opinion even if only temporarily. When President Obama said that Democrats had him and this wouldn't be a repeat of 1994, well just look at that graph again. A well-timed speech or two could make a huge difference in public opinion right before the mid-term elections.

The GOP would serve itself well to have some good ammunition to bring out in the final week of campaigning to counter a possible moving Obama speech. Plan now, succeed later, you know?
