Why the rush to dismiss the Fort Hood tragedy?

The mainstream media is all over the Fort Hood story but not in the way you'd expect. They grasped at anything, anything, to avoid the Muslim extremist views of the perpetrator. They floundered around before inventing a new affliction - pre-traumatic stress system. Wow.

Imagine the difference in coverage if this had happened on September 12th, 2001. We don't even need that level of concern though. How about just calling a perpetrator of an act of terror a perpetrator of an act of terror?

They won't. They can't. To do so would be to admit that President Bush kept the country safe from terrorists for 7 years after 9/11, and Obama didn't even make it one year before it flared up.

It doesn't even matter if the comparison isn't necessarily fair - the don't want to risk it that chance.

So why the rush to dismiss the Fort Hood tragedy as the act of a lunatic and not the act of a militant Muslim extremist?

Simple. The Obama honeymoon may be over for the mainstream media but even so, they still love him. They're still running cover for him.

Are you really all that surprised?

  1. There are several interesting dynamics (where the heck did Im learn to say that?) here.

One is that the captive press is showing additional signs of awakening.

But the one that is most interesting things about Mr. Obama's speech (and it actually argues the reverse of your observation) is that he clearly signals that he thinks the rabid Muslim beliefs are at the root.

As for the awakening in the captive press--I'm not sure what to make of it, but I am sure that there is more turmoil under the surface than we realize.
