Unless President Obama wants to give the GOP credit for the work he has begun in earnest, this quote is entirely misdirection:
CHICAGO (AFP) – US President Barack Obama accused Republicans of wanting to turn the United States into a "Third World" country as he rallied support for his reelection campaign.
The attack came a day after Obama savaged Republican budget plans and unveiled his $4-trillion deficit reduction drive that aims to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans in order to preserve key social services.
The debate over fiscal policy will prove critical to the 2012 campaign and Obama sought to frame it as a "stark choice" between investing in the future or watching the country fall apart.
"Under their vision, we can't invest in roads and bridges and broadband and high-speed rail," Obama told a select group of the Democratic faithful at the second of three fundraising events in his hometown of Chicago.
"I mean, we would be a nation of potholes, and our airports would be worse than places that we thought -- that we used to call the Third World, but who are now investing in infrastructure."
The real culprit Mr. President is the party in power from 2009 until 2011 in the White House, Congress and Senate, who added excluding the impact of Obamacare and the deliberate ignoring of the problems with Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
The President inherited a ridiculous $10.626 trillion debt the day he took office. That took 232 years to accumulate. Today it stands just under $14.3 trillion. That's nearly $4 trillion in two years. During his presidency, Obama has been able to match 34.5% of the previous 232 years of debt. Talk about overachieving. Now to try to pass the credit for the U.S. future inability to pave it's roads onto Republicans is dishonest Mr. President. You deserve the credit.
Unfortunately, my hometown folks are so brain dead, they'll actually buy this Bozo's Republican bashing. That's the way it is in Chi Town. For what' it's worth, as I grew up around the original Mayor Daley and let's not forget he was a hard core Democrat in many ways, I really think if he would pull this commie leaning bastard aside and literally bitch slap him! Mayor Daley was a lot of things, not all good, but he loved he country! I really feel he would hold Obama in utter disdain.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Chicago, but I hear it's a great town, except it's politically a swampland.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about how Daley would react to O, but to your point, a lot of people swallow the rhetoric whole and are blind to the actions that belie that very rhetoric.
